History Internal Assessment 3.2 Assessment Standard 91435: Analyse an historic event, or place, of significance to New Zealanders
By Kandace Black
The aim of my website is to be able to comprehensively analyse The Invasion of Parihaka and to convey the historical significance of this event whilst looking at how it impacted New Zealanders and New Zealand society. The idea of the set task is to incorporate this new understanding into a website page in the hope to convey ideas and messages in an interesting format with visual reinforcements. Due to the Internet and many past publications becoming digitalized (e.g. Papers Past and New Zealand Electronic Text Collection), I will be able to find primary evidence which will help me to show the significance on the event and how ideas in the past were conveyed through art, paper articles and songs.
The purpose of my internal is to comprehensively analyse a significant event (The Invasion of Parihaka), using a variety of primary and secondary sources as well as many scholarly articles, published books and online resources. I will be using such sources to look at the causes, consequences and the invasion itself to understand how this event is significant and how it impacted New Zealand society. It is the way in which I convey the significance of the event through my key ideas and further in-depth explanations that will show my understanding on the event and on the task requirements. To help me formulate my understanding on the event, I will be doing preliminary reading and researching, formulating and answering questions and doing analysis on the task by answering a series of questions that has been given in Appendix B of our internal hand-out. I look forward to this internal and gaining a better understanding and comprehension of the Invasion of Parihaka but also looking and comparing the past and modern New Zealand society. I am specifically interested in looking at what life would have been like for the people of Parihaka and how the new Pakeha settlers changed their lives.
To Achieve with Excellence on this internal, I will be looking and referring back to exemplars and guidelines that have been set by NZQA and resources from the TKI website to ensure that I am completing this internal with up to an Excellence standard. The TKI website states; “The Ministry of Education, in association with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority, has reviewed all curriculum-related standards so that they are aligned to The New Zealand Curriculum.” I have confidence that this will help me to achieve to the standard I hope.
